7 Don’ts To Consider at Your Next Office Party, Part 2
Wondering if you can skip the next corporate party? Forget about it. Here are a few tips to help you avoid common mistakes that can cost people their careers.
- Don’t Get Drunk
Well, this is an obvious one. You can’t control your actions when you’ve had too much alcohol. So you might end up making a huge mistake letting something slip off your tongue. The image of your stumbling and muttering, or worse burping, is not what you want your boss to have.
If you are not sure when enough is enough, don’t start drinking at all. It’s very easy to sip one drink all night. You can order something that doesn’t taste good in order to make the process simpler.
- Don’t Hide
Even if you are a new kid on the block or don’t have anything to talk to the secretary about, don’t be anti-social. Hiding out in the corner with your smartphone is the worst thing you can do. Go around and mingle. Find things to talk about. This way you can make your presence known. Ask your colleagues to dance.
- Don’t Discuss Controversial Matters
When you talk to your coworkers at a holiday office party, try to avoid controversial matters such as politics or religion. Everyone has his or her own opinion about these matters. Discussing them is the best way to get into an argument. If you are controlling your drinking, you can easily control your tongue.
- Don’t Flirt
You don’t feel like flirting with your boss when you are in the office so why start doing at a party? Yes, regular parties can involve plenty of flirting. However, an office party is far from being standard. Before doing something, ask yourself whether you are ready to repeat it in the office on Monday.
