Holiday office parties can become the most entertaining events but they could also turn into a big disaster. All depends on your behavior. When planning to go to an office party, you have to remember that no matter how fun it seems, it’s still part of your job. Accordingly, 100 % relaxation is out of the question. You have to watch virtually every step. Here are a few important “don’ts”.
- Don’t Miss It
No matter how boring the office parties are and how many other plans you have for the evening, don’t miss the event.
Consider it a part of your everyday job. Your absence will be noticed and noted, not just by your co-workers but by bosses as well. Don’t be the one mentioned in the next company newsletter as the team spirit killer.
- Talk to Your Date
Many corporate parties allow you to bring a date. Make sure to talk to your significant other and explain what she or he can or can’t talk about. At the same time, give them tips about the dress code. It’s fully your responsibility to watch your date’s behavior and prevent him or her from making fatal mistakes. After all, you don’t want your coworkers or employees gossiping about your date in the office tomorrow.
- Don’t Show Your Boredom
You might be bored out of your mind, but you just can’t show it. Use all your acting skills to appear engaged in the conversation with your colleagues or executives. Make sure to watch your body language. Avoid frowning and yawning. Act as if all the eyes are on you at all times. You never know who might be watching you at the party and how it can affect your career.
