12 Rules for Serving Food at a Dinner Party

If you are about to host a dinner party and have the entertainment part settled, you need to learn a few rules about serving the food. The food-serving etiquette is complicated, but if you make it your goal to learn the basics, you can turn your party into something special. 1. Serve women first unless there is a guest of honor who must be attended to first.

9. When refilling the glasses, never lift them from the table. Move them close to you for convenience.
10. Each common dish, such as butter, cheese, and lemon slices should have a fork. Olives and pickles must have silverware for easy serving.
11. Set the juice glasses, soup bowls, and dessert dishes on saucers or small plates.
