Throwing a surprise party is hard work. We hope these tips can make your job easier and the party more enjoyable.
3. Do: Think of The Dress Code
Remember, the guest of honor has no idea that you are arranging a party, so most likely he or she will be dressed as usual. If this “as usual” is casual, have everyone else dress the same way. You don’t want the Surprisee to feel out of place at his or her own party.
Don’t: Have a Theme Party
A theme party is a lot of fun but it doesn’t work well for surprise events. Most of the time, such parties require plenty of preparations beforehand and a clueless Suprisee might feel uncomfortable in such a situation.
- Do: Hide The Décor
When you decorate the house or the venue for the party, make sure the décor is not visible from the outside. Forget about fancy window lights or large strobe lights. All the decorations should be subtle enough not to be noticed before the time comes.
Don’t: Keep the Decorations in the House
If you are throwing the party in the guest of honor’s house, don’t keep the decorations in it. Leave them in the car or in the neighbor’s basement. Even if the Surprisee is careless, she or he might stumble upon such things accidentally and ruin the party. This tip is valid for food and drinks as well
5. Do: Make Photos
The photo of the moment the Surprisee sees the guests is priceless. Make sure to hand out cameras to several guests so the moment is definitely caught on tape.
Don’t: Invite Strangers
Make sure that the guests you invite are the Surprisee’s friends and family. Inviting people that the guest of honor hardly knows can make him or her feel uncomfortable.
