- Diwali Festival
Diwali festival is a big Indian celebration. It’s also called the Festival Of Lights. The main theme of the celebration is the victory of good over evil. Lights, lamps, and other light sources are widely used for the celebrations. The same goes for fireworks.
It’s a very bright holiday, which anyone can celebrate. The festival celebrates the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after 14 years in exile. Back then, people lighted lamps to welcome him back. The festival usually lasts for 5 days and starts in October or November. In 2017, Diwali begins on October 18.
- St. Patrick’s Day
This day is always celebrated on March 17. This was the date when Patrick died. St. Patrick was a Christian missionary, who was taken to be a slave by Irish marauders. He lived in Ireland for 6 years and then managed to escape. After the escape, Patrick became a bishop. Some years later, he came back to Ireland as a missionary.
- Guy Fawkes (Bonfire) Night
Guy Fawkes Night is celebrated on November 5. Together with other English Roman Catholics Fawkes tried to execute the Gunpowder plot to destroy the House or Parliament and kill King James I of England. This was the attempt to end the Protestant rule. The date of the attempt was November 5. This holiday is also called Bonfire night. In the UK, people build bonfires and burn the dummies, which represent Fawkes.
- Backwards Day
Christmas is over and 4th of July is not coming up for some time. Celebrate the backwards day. This holiday is celebrated on 31st of January. During this day, you have to do stuff backwards and use #NationalBackwardDay hashtag. A great reason to celebrate!
