The London’s leading female saxophone quartet consists of 4 different musicians who are also leading their own career paths; Sara Field Fiona Asbury, Hanna Riches and Josie Simmons. Sarah Field is a trumpeter and saxophonist who was a member of the award winning band Elbow, became a part of Hummel’s Trumpet Concerto at the Southbank in London, and the UK premiere of Stockhausen’s “Abduction” for saxophone and electronics. She has worked with artists like Sting, Seal’s, BBC Concert Orchestra, and RTE National Symphony Orchestra. Fiona Asbury is a classical/jazz/pop/electronic artist who plats flute, clarinet, and keyboards. She also backs vocals, composes, and mimes on TV. Her skills are endless. Hanna Riches is a saxophonist and woodwind player who can also play flute and clarinet. She studied in the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, and she got master’s degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She has toured Europe with Abba The Show (National Symphony Orchestra), worked in a short run of Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet, and more. Lastly, Josie Simmons is a performer/composer/teacher in classical and jazz. She had first class honours degree in Guildhall School of Music, and has performs as an ensemble player and soloist with groups like  The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Cellorhythmics, Sarum Orchestra and the Brandenburg Sinfonia. She has performed with astists like John Surman, Henry Lowther and Chris Lawrence and has performed with the London Jazz Orchestra. She has also has written and performed her own saxophone concerto ‘Born Of Fire’ which reflects the instruments character by transcending between classical and jazz idioms.
